Managing Workplace Diversity Issues & Challenges
The primary source of stress in adult life is issues related to the workplace. It is impossible to have a workplace environment without any conflict. As people working together at the same time in the same place have different traits of personality. And in the result, the workplace issues create a negative impact on peoples thoughts, creativity, motivation and personality.
Many types of research proved that workplace issues and challenges cause depression and anxiety on individuals. The workers discuss their concerns and problems with mental health professionals which will help them grow positively on their health and personality. Some of the Ethical issues in the workplace are:
Lack of Engagement:
According to research Employees engagement in work has been improved in recent years. According to research, the employees who are engaged in their work is only 34%.
That is true. I have been working in one organization for one year, and I noticed people don’t put their 100% input in their duties, But they expect for 100% reward.
Gossips and Rumors:
If you think you will avoid scandals in any work environment, it is impossible. You can try to minimize it, or organizations can make some ethics or rules to stop their employees been engaged in this activity. Gossips in workplace environment reduce the potential of the employees, as by hearing rumours will make a negative impact on the mind, and as a result, the employee won’t be able to focus on his work.
As now a day’s tolerance level has been decreased in the people either they are from any culture, society or country. By hearing something about you that is not true will make you mentally upset, aggressive, lack of concentration, disturbed mind, and sadness will be a significant issue and challenge for the individual in his workplace.
Communication Issues In The Workplace:
If there is a lack of communication in the workplace, it creates an uncomfortable environment. When the Managers or Authorities are not communicating with their staff members than staff think that authority doesn’t trust them, or something is being hidden because they do not become trustworthy, in a result it can create lack of motivation in workers.
They will think that maybe the organization is not growing well or it is about to fold. It will also show that the organization is inefficient and disorganized. It can create worry and confusion among workers, and they won’t be able to focus on their work. Workers can create only gossips environment which will affect the progress of the organization.
Sometimes other people are not good at communicating issues or any information about the organization. The organization should share the policies, projects details, and deadlines everything because poor communication will affect the progress and workers will only waste time.
Among many workplace issues, communication issues in the workplace are the primary and vast problem. As is you are working in any place, any area, and any country you need to talk with your team members. And the information about the organization or workers progress should not be kept confidential, and it is the right of the people to know this information. I have also experienced this issue as our authorities were not informing anything related to the organization even do not give feedback to the workers. I guess its main effect globally. That is what I want to discuss below.
Low Motivation & Job Satisfaction:
Generally, all employees wish to work hard and to become a valuable member of the team. He wants to impress his boss, motivate others, and to take appreciation from others. Some managers fail to observe their worker’s hardworking and efforts and they don’t drive or appreciate the members, which results from the employees who feel underappreciated or unmotivated will feel a dissatisfaction from their job and will not engage themselves in work as they were doing before.
One of the workplace issues is procrastination. It is put things delaying or off, will not only slow in completion of tasks but will also create problems for others. As in some organizations, when all workers will complete the job or projects than their salaries will be submitted in their accounts, but because of only 2 or 3 members, all team members are affected. Sometimes they all have to face the circumstances.
To avoid this issue:
- Deadlines should be provided to employees.
- Projects should be broken into pieces.
- Some workers should be assigned a task to manage the time among the team.
- On completion of proper job feedback should be given and reward or appreciation to the deserving person.

A requirement of Training:
The organization should give proper training to their employees because sometimes employees feel that they are not given adequate training which is required for completion of tasks. Supervisors should arrange appropriate training setup for their staff and should be asked if someone needs additional training or information.
Stress can be useful if it is motivating you to complete the task, but some pressure is harmful if it is distracting your mind from the task. So authorities should check if their work is going through any stress their workload should be decreased. Also, there are now a day’s many apps or applications which can reduce your workload.
In some competitive work environment, managerial Authorities induce stress, and employees become highly energetic and motivated. They love to work hard, take the stress and beat their co-workers.
Extended Work Hours:
Sometimes employees have to work extra hours to complete their tasks. But if extra work and putting their extra hours increased, which may affect his mental and physical health. He will not give proper time to his family, and this all will create frustration, stress, and he may lose his motivation in work.
Diversity Issues In The Workplace:
It has a positive effect when people from different culture and background working together on the same goal and will enhance the company progress. But meanwhile, it is also profoundly affecting the growth of the organization when employees start discrimination.
In any company, all people are not from the same culture. They are from different countries, cultures and languages. Employees should accept each other. If they will not the organization will be severely affected as there will be no cooperation and collaboration, but if they take each other they will share their ideas, creativity will emerge, teamwork, mutual respect and combine hard working will enhance the company.
Ethnic and Cultural Differences:
Unfortunately issues from different cultures and ethnic are still present in the workplace. People don’t accept other people who are from different cultures. This discrimination cannot be tolerated as it affects individuals and company’s growth.
Training on diversity in the workplace should be arranged, which will bring positive change.
Some researchers showed that 40% of people have thought that males and females will hire males over females.
In past females were given fewer salaries as compared to males. But now the trend changed. Everyone is paid according to their skills. Companies still needed to prevent gender differences, and there should be equality in hiring, promotion, salaries.
Physical and Mental Disabilities:
Disable people sometimes face difficulties to reach their workplace because of the absence of wheelchair ramps. Few people have their dogs with them, but many companies don’t allow them neither they don’t make a proper place for their dogs.
Many people who are disabling have issues of vehicle, so the company should provide special pick and drop for these members. Some companies have ‘quiet room’ where the employees can take some rest. People should not discriminate and give a calm and pleasant environment for disabled employees.
Language is the primary barrier in any organization in its progress. In any organization, people are from different background and words. And many employees do learn the language of the organization, but even then employees don’t accept those who are from a different culture. That can lead to miscommunication. So the company should give training and language courses for non-native English people.
Let’s discuss that in the workplace who report ethical issues mostly?
Rank and file employees report mostly Ethical issues. Temporary workers do not care as they are only temporarily. Executives have their jobs and finances at stake if something is reported so they will keep quiet. Middle managers want to please executives and get promotions, so they are less likely to say anything as well.
Psychologist’s Point of view:
From my Point of view, many companies are growing definitely by the combined and cooperation of all workers and authorities altogether.

Workers are jewels of the company because they are on the backstage that is enhancing the company. Many companies have made labour laws and rights, which are in favour of the workers. For example, many companies give medical free, paid vacations, maternity leaves, delivery expenses, free schooling of employee’s kids, bonuses paid holidays in the situation of any disaster or due to impacts like from the coronavirus pandemic. Some companies give once or twice air tickets.
My question is only from those employees who are enjoying all the facilities from the company but why they are not giving their 100% input. Where is their sincerity? Why they are not being motivated by all these instincts.
